Oh Crap

I need help coming up with ideas on what to get Alan for our 2.5 year semi-anniversary (October 21st). I’m hoping to spend between $20 and $30, being that it is a more minor celebration. Any input would be appreciated – especially through post comments; Alan’s the hardest guy in the universe to buy for.

Sleep Schedule Conflicts

As you have probably guessed, I have had some serious problems going from sleeping between 3am and noon to sleeping between 12am and 6:30am. I still don’t feel like I should be going to sleep so early. On the bright side, I met the woman I’m replacing, Lori, today, and she is very nice. She invited me to her cigarette breaks, and she told me a bit about the dirty side of the tile. I’m glad that she is training me as a result of her choosing to leave, rather than being forced to leave. I think that’s one of the major reasons why there’s no real tension.

The job is looking better after spending most of the day learning about what I’ll be doing. I feel like an old hand at the stuff I learned yesterday, and the office seems much more cozy now that I have my own desk, monitor, computer, and WINDOW. I’ll have to remember to take a picture of my desk tomorrow, just because I’m so happy to finally have a job.

I’m glad that I get to talk to Alan just about every day, even if it’s only for a minute or two. Today we talked a little over 10 minutes, even though he was busy. Talking to him tends to just cheer me up. I don’t even know why, because we only talk about everyday normal things.      Maybe I’m just bipolar. Rachel, Renee’s sister, called me and said that Renee had been missing all day. I knew she was probably at Chad’s, so when she called from his place, I was not surprised, but disappointed. She really should have told her parents. She actually asked if she could spend the night to avoid confronting this problem with them. I told her that I would not support her decision to do that, and told her that she was acting more like she acted when she was running away from her problems and unhappy 2-3 years ago than when how she wants to act. She realized this and went home. I was very frustrated after this phone call, so I calmed down a little and called Alan. Even though we didn’t spend any time talking about Renee (mostly how my job is going and his hockey game last night), I felt 100% better. Maybe even a higher percentage than that. It’s hard to describe; it was as if talking to Alan made Renee and her problems go away. I didn’t even remember them until I went into the living room and my dad asked me “How was Renee [on the phone]?”

If nothing else, my fish Stewie is never depressed. Even though the vibrations have continued (I see his water fluttering this very instant), he has made the largest and tallest bubble nests that I have seen. All this at 75% of Brian’s size. I guess that’s what happen when you put the little fish in the big bowl and leave the larger fish in the medium bowl.

Ugh… First Day at Work

Sunday I spent 45 minutes waking Alan up. I’m only counting the time it took for him to stand up – 1pm to 1:45. He was fully conscious around 3pm. We watched a couple of Everybody Loves Raymond episodes. We grilled at 5:30. I left for home at 7:30. I got home at 10. I went to sleep at around 2 or 2:30. I’m not sure because I had to stop looking at the clock and put a sleep mask on.

I woke up at 6:15am, and that hurt. Luckily it was at a good point in my sleep pattern, so I was physically moving and my eyes worked, but not much more was there. Too-rah loo-rah, too-rah loo-rah, yeah. Work was completely hectic. No offense to my boss, Marc, but I spent way too much time with him today. I was working at about full honk all day since everyone needed me to do something for them. I didn’t even have time to Mapquest the place where I had to get a drug test. I am probably going to fall asleep in about an hour. This was my first 8 hour day in more than a year… and I’m used to having Fridays off at school.

Champaign Visit v10.0, Day 3

So, Alan (the bum) is playing hockey. I sat there and watched for a while, but I left when our ride left. Most of the guys are still there, and I’m pretty damn hungry. He’d better get back and make my supper soon. Biatch. Anyway, while I was at the game, I finished my impossibly long scarf. How long is it, you ask? Well, if you count the fringe, it’s TOO long. I have to wrap it around my neck three times for it to not touch the ground. But I love it anyway. Maybe I’ll use it as a belt.

Today, Alan’s parents came into town and we went to lunch at Dos Reales. It was pretty good, I was happy. After that we went to Sams Club where Alan purchased nearly $200 worth of food. We stopped at Target and Menards (where I found a volleyball PC game on clearance for $3.99). After his parents left, Alan and I watched the rest of the third Die Hard movie, then a few episodes of Everybody Loves Raymond before his hockey game. I preordered him the first season on DVD for a present a long time ago, so he just got it now (when his parents brought it). It’s nice, and it’s funny, so I would recommend it (based on the first disk). It’s strange how much Alan agrees with Raymond and I agree with his wife. We never laugh at the same jokes in that show. For instance, the grandma told Raymond’s brother that “You don’t have to be sensitive; you’re big,” which erupted Alan into a laugh that must have lasted two minutes. I, on the other hand, gave him an evil stare.

In the meantime, I’ll sustain my usual-dinner-time-at-5-PM self on goldfish and dried apricots. I would play my new volleyball game, but Alan’s hard drive is practically full with all the Futurama I’m copying. Maybe I can install it to my external… *ponders*

Champaign Visit v10.0, Day 1 & 2

So I got to Champaign with little to no traffic, in spite of the fact that I left at 3:30. I was very sleepy before I left, and I had a hard time waking up (I guess I’m going to become a Diet Pepsi fan soon; and I thought I would never take a choice among the cola crap). I was in a good mood when I arrived, and Alan and I went to dinner at Empire. I was ten minutes late to improv, and I found that there were only 3 people there already (Katy, Mitch and Lexi). Brian, Scott, and this other guy whose name I forget showed up later, and we played some games for about an hour. Then, how lovely, we got to talking about politics. Rather, I should say, Lexi and the guy (pro-Kerry) and Katy (pro-Bush) got to talking about politics. In other words, it sucked ass.

When I got back to Alan’s I was in a bad mood (since I probably won’t go to improv ever again due to the employed thing). I talked to Alex on the phone some (who ditched improv to see Super Size Me), and then Alan and I watched The Untouchables, which we hadn’t seen before. It was decent, but it was strange because we had seen many movies that had ripped this movie off. (For example, Al Capone’s last statement “You’re nothing but a lot of talk and a badge” is prominently displayed in Mallrats).

This morning Alan had a meeting at noon, and he woke up late, so I drove him to it. He’s back now, and I should go shower, so I’ll post later. That’s basically all that’s up. Huzzah to online banking, is all I gotta say. It’s just super neat.

Feeling: Back hurts, dirty, tired.

JOB JOB JOB I HAVE A JOB

So I took the job with All Tile. I start Monday. Tuesday I went to Chad’s with Renee. I’m glad she found someone like him; I think they go well together. The hot tub was nice, too. Yesterday I went to Ruby Tuesdays with Jen to celebrate me getting my job. Then we went back to her place to see her newest animal-in-need. For those of you keeping track, these are her pets: two budgies (Flick and Hermes), a golden retriever (Buddy), one Russian dwarf hamster (Buttercup; Bubbles and Blossom died from being weened from their mother too soon), two beta fish (one is Trip and one is unnamed), and a guinea pig (Lilly) who is disabled. The guinea pig had been sold at Petsmart (Jen was sad, she wanted to buy her) a week or so ago, but she came back paralysed from her middle down. The second vet told them that she had her spine crushed (Jen’s convinced part of her pelvis is too). Jen adopted her and plans to build her a little cart so that she can walk easier; right now she kind of pulls herself along on her front legs and has some trouble eating (guinea pigs usually use their front paws to help them eat).

Apparently Petsmart and/or its employees are looking to give away two more rodents that Jen can’t take in for fear of being kicked out of her house. There’s a rat (who I’ve heard is sweet, but Jen says that about most every animal) and a black guinea pig named Tradgedy. Any of you interested, let me or Jen know. I’m sure they’d be free to a good home.

So right now I’m busy encoding the last of the Futurama (because I forgot and Alan wants them). After that it’s off to the bank to open new checking and savings accounts to go with my first real full time job (that doesn’t involve the word INTERN), because the U of I Credit Union’s debit card BLOWS ASS. They charge you for POINT OF SALE PURCHASES… bah, don’t get me started. Hopefully the new bank won’t try to screw me over.

After that it’s off to Alan’s and improv. So far, our plans for the week are limited. He has a TA meeting Friday morning, his parents are coming in on Saturday, and he had something to do tonight. So, I may not have much time to hang out with you people in Champaign unless you go to improv. 8pm. Lincoln Hall by the head.

I Got the Job Offer

Yes, I rock. I’m calling Marc at All Tile tomorrow to accept it (I found out this morning, but I wanted to run it by my parents and everything). I’m pretty excited about it. I’m glad that I’ve finally acquired a job that I want, and they’re actually paying me almost as much as TravelCLICK offered. So, for all of you who hinted or suggested that I should have taken the job at TravelCLICK,

:P

For those of you who are unclear about what I’d actually be doing at the job, I’ve decided to outline marketing, especially this particular outlet of marketing. I’ll be helping Marc with writing and editing promotional material (letters to customers, letters to potential customers), designing promotional events (sales, discounts, etc), determining regional pricing, and trade shows, lots and lots of trade shows. I’ll also be doing some more boring stuff to offset the complicated stuff.

Silly me

So, for those of you following the Playboy saga, it has come to a conclusion. The item I got in the mail was in fact a catalogue, not a magazine. Therefore, there is no subscription; the catalogue, I’m sure, is free. However, I’m not completely retarded. By looking at the cover there’s practically no way to tell. See?

Sorry this was a bit anti-climactic. I probably got on the list for this catalogue from the people at Victoria’s Secret or Frederick’s of Hollywood. I may, however, still cancel the subscription, because I would never endorse or purchase anything that would give money to Hugh Hefner. A girl’s gotta have principles.

Today I’m going over to Renee’s boy (sorta) Chad’s house. He is taking us to lunch and he opened up his hot tub. Hopefully it will be a good time. Renee is expecting that they won’t be making me a third wheel, but who knows. At least it’s only gonna last until 6 or 7pm. I’m late, I’m supposed to be ready at 11, but I just woke up like 10 minutes ago, so I gotta go.

Feeling: Exhausted, and Late

Leela and Other Costumes

Well, the Leela costume boots are still unfinished, but that’s mostly because the glue is drying. So far, I have cut, sewn (well my mom did most of that, but I was there) and glued them. I still have to cut and glue the “sole” of the shoe on them (I’m putting a black ridge around the bottom that will look like the sides of her boots since I have the extra material and I thought it would be cool). Right now the glue is drying, so I thought it would be a bad idea to work on the sole now.

For those of you who question my costume-making abilities, I must show off. I haven’t made costumes in a long time (the most recent time had to be four years ago), and even then I didn’t do many, but I have a very strong desire to make things perfect. Call me anal, if you wish. For proof, see the below pictures of my ex-boyfriend (crazypat, for those of you who know the story) as Darth Maul (I did his makeup; he bought the costume at a store), and me as Rogue (at a comicon; I built that costume from scratch). For those of you interested in makeup for Halloween, let me tell you that the cream based makeups (that come in a tube) are far superior to any other kind of makeup I have used in terms of ease of use, coverage, and opacity. I used cream makeup for both the red and black parts of the Darth Maul face.

For a long time I didn’t want the pic of me as Rogue to get out (I only own one copy of the picture myself), but now I figure why not. At the comicon I went to in that costume, I counted upwards of 35 guys who took a picture with me and two video cameras. One guy actually came up to me and said, “I just wanted to tell you that you are beautiful,” and just walked away. I was very confused, but flattered, I suppose.

So, apparently someone *gives evil eye to someone* bought me a subscription to Playboy. If anyone is interested in a free subscription (as I am not), let me know.

Feeling: Good, accomplished

Leela Costume Updates

Current Unfinished Projects (for those of you who were trying to keep score):

  • Leela’s Eye (out of Silk Chiffon)
  • Leela’s Boots (out of fleece, over shoes)
  • Crocheting Two Fish Warmers (just like hats, only for the fish bowls so they don’t freeze to death at night)
  • Crocheting Long Pastel Scarf (the 500 row one)
  • Crocheting Fuzzy Scarf (which I haven’t worked on in weeks)
  • (possibly) Carving Alex’s Claws (for the Dr. Zoidberg costume, out of foam)
  • Leela’s Gun (I’m getting a space gun that I’m going to paint)
  • Leela’s Hair (I bought a purple wig that I’m going to style and put in a ponytail)
  • Putting a “Handmade with Love By” Tag on my Dad’s hat
  • Putting a “Handmade with Love By” Tag on Alan’s hat

  •      So, the Leela costume. For those of you who haven’t been paying attention, I’m going to be Leela from Futurama for Halloween. Which Halloween party, you ask? HellifIknow. I may have to do some traveling to celebrate in both the burbs and Chambana. Let me know if you’re going to be throwing a Halloween party! Right now, I have the clothes (tank top and black pants). I have ordered the wig and ray gun (as mentioned above). In progress still are the boots and the eye (which I’m still debating about how it will be done). I finished constructing the wrist communicator. Tada!

I spent most of yesterday making it, because it’s very hard to get the colors right when you have four basic colors to mix. I had to mix the white, black, and “medium” blue (aka smurf blue) to make the grayish main color, and that took a few coats to get right. As for the dark blue in the center, just thank my mom for actually keeping all of those fabric “puffy” paints from when I was a kid and chemistry for crusting over the tips first (so the paint inside did not dry up). The smurf blue and black would never make that color. Damn Walmart’s poor puffy paint selection.

    Feeling: Excited about the boots.
